Change of Season

2025 is proving to be a year of change for many in different ways. Recently we saw spring solstice and many set their clocks forward an hour. The world around us is certainly changing, both at home and internationally.

With all the external changes around us, the KAIROS Blanket Exercise team continues to work tirelessly behind the scenes, creating up-to-date content for the website, developing packages for partners, and creating informed training. Soon we will begin script revisions.

We are shaping a long-term vision for the program with the support of the Indigenous Advisory Circle and our Indigenous community partners to better support the larger KBE community. As we prepare for a full relaunch, we remain committed to the empowerment of our partners in this transformative work.

Updates on training are forthcoming. We appreciate your patience. The wait will be worth it.

This April let’s not forget a couple of important dates:

  • April 5-14: Toonik Tyme – an Inuit festival celebrating the return of spring with cultural events, storytelling, and traditional practices to come together and honour their Inuit heritage.
  • April 22: Mother Earth Day – dedicated to honouring the planet and recognizing the deep spiritual and cultural connection that Indigenous peoples have and a reminder to care for and protect the Earth for future generations.
  • April 28: Election Day – Inuit gained the right to vote in 1950; First Nations women and men got the vote unconditionally in 1960; Voting restrictions were not formally imposed on Métis: Métis women got the vote in 1918 along with settler Canadian women.
